Today I get to talk to you about sleep training. I just finished sleep training my fifth child. He’s now sleeping eight hours a night at a time! He’s been doing that for the last week. This hasn’t been the case for all my kiddos. My goal is six hours by six weeks. My first was born at only five pounds and a few ounces, so we didn’t get him sleeping six hour stretches at a time until eight weeks old. Regardless, I follow the same methods. I get asked a lot of sleep training questions since I did a video on this channel after I sleep trained my second child and it got a lot of views. I want to say that I am no sleep training expert at all. I’ve actually never read a book on sleep training. My mom had eleven kids and she sleep trained all of us from birth. I basically do everything she told me to do that she did. I have done this for the last few kiddos. It has gone better, smoother and easier each time. I have also learned a few things over the past few kiddos. I’m excited to share these things with you today because my son was “sleep trained” with zero crying it out, literally not even 60 seconds. I know that can be very stressful for a lot of moms. Hopefully what I share with you is helpful in “sleep training” from birth. I put it in air quotes because it’s not really sleep training. It’s helping your child get on a different schedule than what they were on when they were in your womb. This video is not intended to change anyone’s mind. There are different types of mothering. I think they can all be very successful. They can all be healthy for baby and mama. I find that this is the easiest way for me to not only get sleep, but for me to avoid more trauma for me down the road if I am trying to transition an older child. Sleep Training doesn't have to be a nightmare if you start early, and hopefully some of these tips will help you get some more sleep too!
