Italian bomber on Peljesac

The first day of WW2 in Yugoslavia was April 6 1941. People of Peljesac woke up and started their daily routine.....but over the peninsula bomber squadrons of Regia Aeronautica Italiana ( Italian Royal Air Force) escorted by fighters were on their way to their targets....Boka Kotorska bay,Split and Mostar airfield. There were three raids on Mostar that day,and all of them flew over the peninsula. Mostar airfield was the base for Yugoslav Royal Air Force,and they had one fighter squadron there comprised of two Bf109 and three Hurricanes plus bomber group comprised of fourtheen SM.79. On their way back to the bases in Italy five CANT Z.1007 bis were intercepted by Yugoslav Hawker Hurricane. One of the CANTs was shot down,and crashed on Peljesac. All five crew mebers were killed. They were burried at the local cemetery, The whole story fell into oblivion...until April 2021.
