Recovery massage for the hamstrings and calves | Sports recovery massage part 2

In part 2 of this series on sports recovery massage, we're looking at the posterior thigh, focussing on the hamstrings and calves. We look at techniques you can use to access the medial group with both knee flexion and hip abduction. These techniques allow athletes like multi-stage cyclists to reduce their recovery times. They also decrease the chances they'll injure themselves due to strain and overload injuries. The key to recovery massage like this is to bend your knees and use your own body weight. This allows you to apply pressure through your palms and fists for a broad contact approach called the double-handed pump technique. This lifts and glides the tissue and is a much safer and more sustainable approach than using your fingers and thumbs.
