Better Brothers Los Angeles (BBLA), in partnership with The DIVA Foundation, under the guidance of the Emmy ® Award-winning actress and activist Sheryl Lee Ralph, celebrated the 10th Annual Truth Awards on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Emmy® Award-winning producer Wendy Raquel Robinson and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment journalist Scott Evans hosted the event. BBLA awarded scholarships ranging from $3,000.00 to $5,000.00 to ten students across the United States. BBLA has provided more than $300,000 in tuition assistance to deserving candidates since its inception. This year's list of honorees comprises a highly distinguished group of individuals. The awardees include Karine Jean-Pierre, who was recognized with the History Maker Award; Lena Waithe, who was honored with the Culture & Arts Award; Patrik-Ian Polk, who has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award; Mona Scott-Young, who has been acknowledged with the Ally Award; Bryon Javar, who was bestowed the Andre Leon Talley Style Purveyor Award; Dr. Bettina Love, was celebrated with the Education In Excellence Award; Dr. David Johns, received the Bayard Rustin Advocacy Award, and Sam Prater, who has been acknowledged with the Business Leadership Award. The Truth Awards ceremony featured a stellar entertainment lineup, which included riveting performances by Big Freedia, a Grammy Award-winning hip-hop artist and a celebrated LGBTQ icon, and Hailey Kilgore, a Tony Award-nominated actress. The event was graced by the presence of eminent personalities such as Colman Domingo, Janelle Monáe, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Jussie Smollett, Jason Lee, Brian Jordan Jr., Melvin Robert, Greg Mathis Jr., Tim Pulliam, Elliott Cooper, Darnell Moore, Dr. Shaun Harper, and Armond Kinsey, who made special appearances to mark the occasion.
