Hiking the French Alps | Vanoise

In 2022 I hiked the Tour des Glacier de la Vanoise, a stunning loop trail in Vanoise National Park. It combines the GR 55 and a section of the GR 5. The easiest way to do it is by starting and finishing in Modane, but for logistical and work related reasons, I started in Tignes. Wild camping is prohibited within National Park boundaries, but you can camp near the refuges. Just be aware that some campsites get very busy and need to booked in advance. It's especially true for the refuge at Col de la Vanoise, that needs to be booked months ahead. Though it is very possible to camp in villages, quieter refuges or sometimes walk out of the National Park and pitch your tent. Though I wouldn't count on this option too much as I only did it once, just near Modane. It can be very busy, but it is absolutely worth it. This trail is absolutely amazing.
