Scoliosis is a condition where the spine gets twisted in a three-dimensional plane leading to lateral deviation of the spine if treated early surgery can be avoided or can be done safely. Unfortunately, this 19years old child presented to us very late with complex Scoliosis. The angle of Scoliosis was large (120°), and the curve was very stiff. We could reduce the risk of complications and do this surgery successfully by employing the following strategies. 1. The child was kept in mobile traction for 6 weeks before surgery ( kids are usually very comfortable with traction. 2. Surgery was divided into two stages. In stage 1 multiple screws were inserted in spinal bones using 3-dimensional imaging. In stage 2, multiple osteotomies were done and the correction was achieved under neuromonitoring control.
