Day 4 was a port day in Nassau, The Bahamas. She shares some things to do and see that cost little if anything. If you are looking for information on the sites she refers to in the video, look below. Hello, and thank you for visiting our channel! Whether it's the high seas (CRUISING) or the open road (MOTORCYCLE RIDING), we are going places and taking you with us! Melinda's videos revolve around her experiences aboard cruise ships: travel vlogs, ship and cabin tours, history and info about ports of call, and tips that make her cruising trips economical and enjoyable. #Carnivalsunshine #cruisenews #nassaubahamas The cruise port is on the north side of the island, As you are leaving the port area and walking south on Parliament St. you will pass Rawson Square to the left. In this square is a statue of Sir Milo Butler, the first governor general of the Bahamas. Directly across the street from Rawson Square is Parliament Square, these pink buildings are government buildings. There is a statue of Queen Victoria situated in the center of the square. To the south of the government buildings is the Garden of Remembrance and an octagonal-shaped building that was originally constructed as a jail in 1797. in 1879 it was converted to a library, reading room and museum. Prison cells which once housed prisoners now store books, charts, historical Arawak artifacts, newspapers and colonial documents. Heading East (that is left) on Shirley St. you can walk a couple blocks until you come to Elizabeth Ave., turn south on Elizabeth and go past the Princess Margaret Hospital on your left. You will come to the alley way that leads to the base of the Queen’s Staircase. The 66 stairs leading up to the fort were hewn out of solid limestone rock by slaves between 1793 and 1794 and it is said that it provided a direct route from Fort Fincastle to Nassau City. These steps were later named in honor of Queen Victoria, who reigned in Britain for 64 years from 1837 to 1901. At the top of the stairs, a quick turn to the right will take you to Fort Fincastle. If the fort is open on the day of your visit, I highly recommend you pay the nomimal fee to go up in it. From the top of it you can see almost the entire island.
