Christmas fairy tale begins: Old town of Bielsko-Biała

Right as we walk, the city is getting covered in snow and the whole place resembles a magical land. Let's enjoy together the Christmas atmosphere of a cozy old town and feel like heroes of fairy tale! Bielsko-Biała is a city in southern Poland with a population of 168 319. It is located in the Silesian Voivodeship (since 1999), and was formerly the capital of Bielsko Voivodeship (1975-1998). The first references to the town of Bielsko appear in 1312. In 1951 the towns of Bielsko and Biala Krakowska (town status since 1723) were merged. Bielsko was part of Silesia and Biala was part of Lesser Poland. The Biala River flows through the city, which is the historical border between Silesia and Lesser Poland. During our walk we will see a lot of interesting places. Among them: - Famous “Frog House” constructed in Art Nouveau style with two frogs seating over the entrance and beetles roaming freely over the walls. - The Castle of the Dukes of Sulkowski - the oldest and largest historic building in Bielsko-Biala, located in the eastern part of the Old Town. It was erected in the 14th century. It is a type of city castle from the beginning incorporated into Bielsko's fortification system and was also the strongest element of its fortifications. It also served as a Silesian border fortress, guarding the eastern border of the Duchy of Cieszyn on the Biała River - separating Silesia from Lesser Poland. - Cathedral of St. Nicholas with the portal decorated with a statue of Christ surrounded by medallions with the image of the twelve apostles, over which are placed statues of St. Nicholas, St. Hedwig of Silesia and St. John of Nepomuk.
