Gap of Dunloe and Black Valley part 1

This is the 11th road trip video in the series, taken during the covid-19 pandemic, on the 28th of May 2021. Restrictions were partly suspended to allow for people in Ireland to travel, with no tourists from other countries yet. This meant quiet roads and towns. If possible, please watch at the highest 4K definition (2160p), for a better quality video experience, even when you don't have a 4K screen. 1440p also gives a good picture on bigger screens while 1080p and 720p will probably be fine on smaller screens. (Some devices won't let you go higher than 1080p). This video starts just outside of Killarney, County Kerry. We then take the Gap Road to the start of the Gap of Dunloe. Normally we would leave our car at the parking area just outside the Gap and walk on. The road through the Gap of Dunloe is really narrow and twisty and usually there would be a lot of Jaunting Cars (horse carriages) driving through the Gap. It’s not a good idea to drive it by car when the Jaunting Cars are in operation as they can’t reverse and you will always have to go back until they can pass you. Cars have been damaged in the process. Because of the pandemic, there were no Jaunting Cars so we decided to take the chance and drive the Gap by car. (The last time we had driven it by car was in the early 1990s). After the Gap of Dunloe we drive into the beautiful Black Valley and make our way up to Molly’s cottage. That is where this video ends. 00:00 – start 05:45 – turning into the Gap Road 12:15 – arriving at Kate Kearney’s cottage where we would normally park the car 13:00 – driving into the Gap of Dunloe 15:15 – the stone bridge 19:42 – stop to have a look around 20:50 – moving on 23:30 – big boulders 24:10 – second bridge 25:25 – third bridge 29:00 – stop at the end of the Gap of Dunloe 29:33 – entering the Black Valley 41:45 – the first lake 44:13 – the second lake, Lough Gummeenduff 48:57 – stop before Molly’s cottage 50:05 – Molly’s Cottage Please subscribe to the channel and share with other Ireland lovers.
