New Zealand Road Trip 2019 - Hokitika to Hanmer Springs via the Lewis Pass

After a pleasant lunch break in Hokitika, it was time to hit the road again. The road between Hokitika and Greymouth was home to two unusual road/rail bridges, both of which have been replaced by separate modern road bridges, the railway also crosses the Arahura River on a new bridge, although it still makes use of the old road/rail bridge to cross the Taramakau River. Shortly after passing through Greymouth we cross the Grey River where once again we take a look at old and new road and rail bridges. After leaving Greymouth our route follows the railway to Reefton passing through pleasant rolling countryside punctuated with regular river crossings. Reefton marks the start of the highly scenic Lewis Pass to Christchurch via Springs Junction following the Lewis, Boyle, Hope and Waiau Rivers to Hanmer Springs. We also take a look at an alternative route following the coast out of Greymouth to Punakaiki where we stop to view the famous Pancake Rocks before continuing to Reefton via the Buller Gorge.
