Quick Polymer Clay Pendants.

This short video tutorial shows how to make a quick polymer clay cane and turn slices into a pendant. All the info you need to make your own is listed below, but to start with, sit back relax, and watch as the process unfolds. The music from the video is English Country Garden by Aaron Kenny and is available from the YouTube Free Audio Library. Here is the link to Conditioning Polymer Clay -    • Conditioning Polymer Clay Quickly - s...   The Polymer Clay I am using is FIMO Soft, but all well-known brands of polymer clay will work well with this technique. For the cane I show you, I used 1/8oz (3.5g) of White, Lilac, Raspberry, Plum and Windsor Blue as one blend, White, Mint, Apple Green, Gold, and Bronze as the other. The contrast colours are 1/8oz (3.5g) of Peppermint and Brilliant Blue. The thin layer of clay is 1/3oz (10.5g) of Black. The second colour scheme – on the left of the screen, is 1/8oz (3.5g) of White, Lilac, Raspberry, Plum and Windsor Blue as one blend, Lemon Yellow, Sunflower Yellow, Apple Green, Tropical Green and Bronze as the other. The contrast colours are 1/8oz (3.5g) of Peppermint and Mint. The thin layer of clay is 1/3oz (10.5g) of Black. The third combination – on the right of the screen, is 1/8oz (3.5g) of White, Mint, Peppermint, Brilliant Blue and Plum as one blend, White, Lemon Yellow, Olive Green, Apple Green and Emerald Green as the other. The contrast colours are 1/8oz (3.5g) of Raspberry and Tangerine. The thin layer of clay is 1/3oz (10.5g) of Black. Equipment. • A flat nonporous ceramic tile to work on. • A polymer clay blade to slice the clay, and a clay roller to roll it. • I condition and create thin sheets of polymer clay by using a pasta machine dedicated to Polymer Clay use, but for this cane it can all be done by hand. • A cable needle and a masked blade to neaten the cut slices (or something similar). • A semi sphere mould (details of alternatives are given below). • A small square of baking parchment to work on,anything similar will do. • I measure the clay sheet using a freely downloadable measuring sheet from www.printablepaper.net. I use the 4 squares to 1 inch one, which I laminate. You can also download a cm one. • When I bake/cure my clay, I always tent my tile/mould in aluminium foil, which helps protect the clay should the oven spike in temperature. In the video I show you how to finish the pendant in 3 different ways. • Jump ring – you will need a small hand drill/bit, plus a jump ring. • Bail – You will need a small hand drill/bit and bail finding • Hidden bail – you will need a cocktail stick and extra slice of cane. You can buy the semi-sphere moulds in stores and on line, they are often found in cookware departments, and bath bomb moulds (not plastic ones) are often good to use too. Sculpey have a hollow bead maker which is available from many outlets - Sculpey® Hollow Bead Maker | Sculpey.com . If you cannot find or do not want to purchase these moulds, then you can use the old fashioned round topped spent lightbulbs instead. Put a little scrap clay at the bottom to hold it upright and use the top of the spent lightbulb as your rounded mould. As an alternative, you can carefully cut off the bottom end of a used drinks can, and masking the cut edges, use either the inside or the outside as a gently domed mould, (if there is printing on the bottom, sand it off first). Finally, if you have none of these, then a nice rounded spoon can act as a good mould.
