T2主幹路及茶果嶺隧道連接將軍澳-藍田隧道及中九龍幹線，是六號幹線的中間段。六號幹線通車後，將有效分流現有穿梭九龍東、西部的交通，大大縮減市民往來將軍澳市中心及油麻地的行車時間。 T2主幹路及茶果嶺隧道全長3.4公里，其最主要的部份以隧道鑽挖機在觀塘避風塘海床下建造長達2.4公里的雙管海底隧道。這項技術的好處在於工程期間不會阻礙避風塘運作，市民亦可如常享用海濱設施。 這兩部隧道鑽挖機配備多項嶄新技術，以迎接各種工程挑戰。每部隧道鑽挖機高14米，即約3部雙層巴士曡在一起的高度；長約6卡火車，達120米。 我們早前特別舉行公開比賽讓區內中小學生參與為兩部隧道鑽挖機命名，反應非常熱烈。於2021年11月9日舉行的「T2主幹路及茶果嶺隧道 - 隧道鑽挖機啟動典禮」，她們正式分別命名為「維多利亞」和「瑞亞」。 兩部隧道鑽挖機已於典禮上正式啟動，海底隧道的建造亦將隨即展開。   Trunk Road T2 and Cha Kwo Ling Tunnel constitutes the middle section of Route 6, connecting the Tseung Kwan O-Lam Tin Tunnel and the Central Kowloon Route. Upon the commissioning of Route 6, the traffic between the East and West of Kowloon will be effectively diverted, and the journey time between Tseung Kwan O Town Centre and Yau Ma Tei will be significantly reduced. The Trunk Road T2 and Cha Kwo Ling Tunnel is 3.4 kilometres (km) long, of which its main component is a 2.4 km twin-tube sub-sea tunnel routed underneath the seabed of the Kwun Tong Typhoon Shelter which will be constructed by Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs). The advantage of using TBMs is that it can minimise any disruption to the Kwun Tong Typhoon Shelter and the public can also continue to enjoy the harbourfront facilities during the construction period as usual. The two TBMs are equipped with a number of state-of-the-art innovative technologies to cope with various engineering challenges during the construction of the sub-sea tunnel. Each TBM is of 14 metres (m) in height, which is approximately the height of three double deck bus together; and 120 m in length, which is approximately the length of six carts of train. We have organised a Naming Competition for the two TBMs earlier open to primary and secondary students in the district, and received an overwhelming response. The two TBMs were officially named “Victoria” and “Rhea” respectively at the “Trunk Road T2 and Cha Kwo Ling Tunnel - Tunnel Boring Machine Launching Ceremony” held on 9 November 2021.
