The name derives from three basic design principles: "economies of scale", "energy efficiency", and "environmental improvement." The AP Moller-Maersk shipping line's fleet of E-Class container ships is renowned for its enormous capacity. The eight E-Class Maersk container ships are thought to be the largest container ships in the world when measured in Twenty-Foot Equivalents (TEUs). As there is no port of suitable size for this ship in North America until now, the ships have been used on the route between Asia and Europe.
