I was asked to go into some detail about how I have my a API BOX Consol set up in our patchbays. The box console can be a little confusing because in some ways they tried to do too much, and in otherwise they didn't do enough. my sincere advice to anybody setting up this console with a bay is just ignore any attempt to use the 500 series rack outside of the channels that it's designed to be in. And frankly don't even bother patching the direct Mic pre out. The greatest (recording) feature of the board is that you have an output Fader for those preamps. There is a DB25 connection on the back of the console that says direct outs, that's the one you want.
