2001 Toyota Corolla Headliner Removal and Fabric Replacement Part 1: Getting it out of your car

This video is how I removed the headliner from my 2001 Toyota Corolla CE. The most informative part is the last part in which you put each seat all the way back in the reclined position and put the gear shift all the way back in low gear which will enable you to get the headliner out the front passenger side door. If you have any questions feel free to ask. =) In Part 2 I show how I got the old foam off in preparation for putting the new foam backed headliner fabric on. In Part 3 I show how I spray glued and put the new foam backed headliner fabric on. In Part 4 I show the final product and my recommendations for this project. The Steps taken to get the headliner out are in this order in the video: 1. Take off sunvisors and sunvisor clips 2. Take off "handle bars" or whatever those things are called that you hang your suit or clothes on or use to hang your arm from. 3. Take front passenger and driver side plastic "kick" plates ie where you step into the car. 4. Take off bottom plastic housing of seat belts. 5. Take off seat belts by removing cover and using a socket wrench to undo bolt holding them in 6. Take off upper plastic seat belt housing 7. Gently pry off back and front side plastic panels, you don't have to take them off all the way, just the upper part 8. Remove three back plastic rivets that are holding the back of the headliner up in the back. These were brittle in my car and broke off when removing. I don't think it's possible to remove them without breaking them especially after 15 years in the sun. Not a big deal though because you can buy the three plastic rivets at Toyota for $5. 9. Headliner should now come down. Remove from car by putting seats all the way back in the recline position and putting your gear shift all the way back in low gear and removing the headliner from the front passenger side door. I edited the video with Windows Movie Maker. I've learned that shooting these videos and editing them is harder than it looks! Sorry for the shakiness and head turning camera angles at times, I'm learning from this whole process though and will get better. My main goal with this video is to hopefully give helpful tips on how to get your headliner out of your 98-02 Corolla. Good luck with this project, it takes time but is satisfying when you are done. That and you'll have saved yourself at least $250, most upholstery shops I called wanted between $300-$400 for this job. Take care and remember to wear your safety goggles as these old headliners shed and can get in your eye. Thanks for watching! =)
