The little town of Mittenwald is located in southern Bavaria on the border with Austria. Never heard of it? Then you're probably not a violinist. Musicians have been familiar with the name Mittenwald for centuries - because of the town's violin-making tradition. Only nine workshops survive, but they all produce stringed instruments of supreme quality. They sell their hand-crafted pieces to customers all over the world including Asia and the United States.
