This is a clip from the 1959 movie "The Beat Generation". In this scene, Maila Nurmi recites a Beatnik poem, while holding a squirming white rat. Ms.Nurmi is much better known as being "Vampira", an early1950s TV horror movie host). All extraneous material has been removed from this clip, other than the running commentary of two male characters (a pair of police detectives) seated at a table in the audience. One of these guys is Jackie Coogan, who later went on to eternal fame as "Uncle Fester" in The Addams Family TV series of the early-1960s. The poem is titled "Dear Parents", and was apparently written by Richard Matheson and Lewis Meltzer, since it was part of their screenplay for the movie. Some sources credit Albert Zugsmith as the writer of the poem. However, although he edited a novelization (book version) of the movie, it is based on the screenplay, and the poem in the book is shorter and slightly different.
