In 2021, Smith & Wesson answered consumer demands with the release of its M&P 10mm M2.0, which was the first 10mm Auto-chambered handgun within the company's improved M2.0 line. "Until very recently, if you were a fan of the 10 mm Auto and wanted a dedicated M&P chambered for that powerhouse pistol cartridge, you couldn't get one," American Rifleman Executive Editor Evan Brune said. "That was until Smith & Wesson came out with the M&P M2.0 in 10 mm Auto at the end of 2021. And when they came out with it, they basically gave everyone the options that all the other chamberings have enjoyed." Both 4.6" and 4" barreled versions of the M&P 10mm M2.0 are available, and each can be had with or without bilateral manual thumb safeties. A Performance Center model with a compensated muzzle also recently joined the lineup. "Looking at the gun itself, the 10 mm being such a powerhouse cartridge, they needed a big frame to build the gun on, so Smith & Wesson started with the frame that it builds its .45 ACP M&Ps off of, so this is a bigger frame than we're used to seeing on a lot of the M&Ps," Brune said. "It is a full-size frame, in addition to being just a little larger and beefier. So, what that means is, you get a full-size magazine. So it's a 15-round magazine in 10 mm. That's a welcome capacity in what is already a powerful gun." In addition to the improved frame design and aggressive M2.0 texturing, one of the notable upgrades compared to past M&P pistol models is the blade-in-shoe safety design, replacing the hinged trigger mechanism used in the gun's previous generation. "You don't notice it as much as you notice the narrow blades of a lot of other guns on the market," Brune said. "And it's got a great press, it's got a crisp break, it's a really nice trigger for a factory gun." Another notable feature is the milled slide, which accommodates one of seven included baseplates compatible with a range of today's red-dot optics. A heightened set of factory sights allows owners to co-witness their irons through a mounted optic's viewing window. Within the included accessories are four palmswell grip inserts, enabling shooters to optimize the grip frame for their particular hand size.
