Week 13 - 1984: Oklahoma Outlaws vs Houston Gamblers

1984 Week 13 - Sunday, May 20, 1984 Attendance: 31,142, TV: ABC [NOTE: If you want to skip all the pregame analysis forward the video to the 11:30 minute mark where the game begins. Also during the start of the fourth quarter the ABC Network supposedly had audio issues in the booth even though you could hear the announcers just fine. They eventually switched to the New Orleans/Tampa Bay game temporarily until the audio issues were fixed. I only show a few minutes of that game due to video distortion after the Breakers field goal. The game can be seen on my channel in its entirety without the distortions.    • Week 13 - 1984: New Orleans Breakers ...   The remaining minutes of the Outlaws/Gamblers contest is joined in progress with four minutes left in the fourth quarter] Houston quarterback Jim Kelly threw three touchdown passes in the first half, including a record breaking 41-yarder to Richard Johnson, as the Gamblers blasted Oklahoma 31- 12 in week thirteen of the 84 USFL season. The victory boosted Houston to an 8-5 record. The Outlaws dropped to 6-7 with their fifth consecutive defeat. Kelly, who completed 20 of 31 passes for 281 yards, started the first-half assault on the fourth play of the game with a 41-yard touchdown pass to Johnson. The catch gave Johnson 82 receptions for the season and a new USFL record. Chicago's Trumaine Johnson held the previous record of 81 catches in a season. Kelly directed the Gamblers to three scores in their first four possessions. He also hit Todd Fowler on a 36-yard strike following a fumble recovery by Gambler safety Tom Myers.
