You Know My Name - Gabriela Gunčíková - Chris Cornell cover - Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy

Chris Cornell. One of the greatest (if not the greatest in my humble opinion) modern rock singers. He left us way too soon. He inspired so many including myself and Gabby. To be candid, the early 90's were very disheartening for me from a singing and playing virtuoso standpoint. 80's metal and melodic rock had died and grunge took over the rock world. Single handedly Kurt Cobain and Nirvana (as well as Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots and others) had completely crushed melodic rock. I had wondered why they couldn't co-exist. There were so many similarities with guys like Layne Staley where it was as though the tides had changed and it was an end of an era and people wanted something different. Something dark. Dare I say, people were relating to the depression. But when I heard Chris in Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple Of The Dog, I was like wow! That is one tough act to follow. There were a few bands from the 60's, 70's, and 80's that weathered the storm. AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, Van Halen and a couple of others which are still around to this day. The sad sobering part of 90's grunge is: Because of the dark times and hopelessness many of these musicians went through, they were susceptible to suicide and overdose. (not that overdosing is anything new to rock and roll). But I don't mean just a couple. I mean Suicides: Chris Cornell, Kurt Cobain, Michael Hutchence, Ian Curtis, Elliott Smith, Nick Drake, Chester Bennington, Jill Janus, Richard Manuel and others. (and this does not include the musicians, just the singers). Overdoses: Layne Staley, Scott Weiland, Mike Starr, Andrew Wood, Shannon Hoon, Kristen Pfaff, Bradley Nowell and many many others. So with respect, Gabby (who is also a huge Cornell fan) and I chose, to cover one of Chris' pieces. (we thought it would be fun for a girl to do it) Yes I know there will be haters out there because (especially guys) don't like to see girls covering guy songs however: we felt we could try to do it some justice. So with that said, we chose the James Bond Theme "You Know My Name." We hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed doing it. Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy - Where Even Our Girls Have Balls! (oops...did I just say that? ha ha) Where The PROOF Is In The Singing!
