Park Guell Tour in my Powered Wheelchair BARCELONA, Spain ♿ Fully Accessible 😊💜 | Sept 2022 🌞

Join us on a quick walking tour of the stunningly beautiful Park Güell located in the Gràcia district of Barcelona, Spain. Filmed in 4K on our fantastic trip to Barcelona in September 2022. We were so happy to find out that 99% of the park was fully accessible to me in my powered wheelchair! 👏♿👩‍🦼 Barcelona is the most disabled friendly accessible city we have ever visited! 😊🌞 Park Güell is one of the masterpieces of the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudi, who projected it in 1900. Inaugurated as a public park in 1926, it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984, recognizing its patrimonial and cultural value as a symbol of modern architecture, being one of the biggest exponents of Gaudi's modernism. This playful urban park, the work of architect Antoni Gaudi, features peaceful greens, winding paths and many sculptures and mosaics designed by Gaudi himself. The park was originally part of a commercially unsuccessful housing site, the idea of Count Eusebi Güell, after whom the park was named. It was inspired by the English garden city movement; the original English name Park (in Catalan the name is "Parc Güell"; in Spanish, "Parque Güell"). The site was a rocky hill with little vegetation and few trees, called Muntanya Pelada (Bare Mountain). It already included a large country house called Larrard House or Muntaner de Dalt House and was next to a neighbourhood of upper-class houses called La Salut (The Health). The intention was to exploit the fresh air (well away from smoky factories) and beautiful views from the site, with sixty triangular lots being provided for luxury houses. Count Eusebi Güell added to the prestige of the development by moving in 1906 to live in Larrard House. Ultimately, only two houses were built, neither designed by Gaudí. One was intended to be a show house, but on being completed in 1904 was put up for sale, and as no buyers came forward, Gaudí, at Güell's suggestion, bought it with his savings and moved in with his family and his father in 1906. This house, where Gaudí lived from 1906 to 1926 (his death), was built by Francesc Berenguer in 1904. It contains original works by Gaudí and several of his collaborators. It is now the Gaudí House Museum (Casa Museu Gaudí) since 1963. In 1969, it was declared a historical artistic monument of national interest. Points of Interest in this Video: The Three Viaducts The three viaducts (Lower, Middle and High) make it possible to negotiate the sloping terrain and facilitate communication between the various areas of the park. At the top, there are roads for vehicles and at the bottom they provide protection during inclement weather. Hypostyle Hall This is a covered space, initially conceived as a market, with eighty six fluted columns. The roof is made up of small domes built using the Catalan vault technique, covered in trencadís (broken-tile mosaics), with circular panels designed by the architect Josep Maria Jujol. The Nature Square (or Greek Theatre) This square was intended to hold outdoor shows and popular Catalan culture events. The undulating bench covered with tile-shard mosaic surrounding it was designed by the architect Josep Maria Jujol and built between 1909 and 1914. Austria Gardens The site now occupied by the gardens was once used as a municipal plant nursery. It is named after a donation of trees from Austria planted in 1977. Monumental Staircase The monumental staircase is a double stairway structured in three sections, combining rocks and vegetation. The second flight of stairs is decorated with a fountain in the shape of a snake's head resting on the crest of Catalonia, a dragon with very vivid colours (which has become the most popular image of the park) and a tripod that looks like it is made up of three snakes. ► PLEASE LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE!
