A video of sea trials and the interior of the newly built vessel INSANITY. The boat is powered by a single CAT C18 engine, and is propeller driven. At sea trial, it reached a top speed of 36.7 knots! The cruising speed at 2000 rpm is an impressive 31 knots. New top speed in Bristol Bay: 38.5 knots! The CAT C18 is powerful but also fuel efficient at the same time. At an 8 knot travel speed, it burns 4-5 gph. Cruising at 2000 rpm will bring it up to about 27 gph, although our hull design is capable of maintaining a good plane at a much lower rpm with this engine. When throttled out at 2300 rpm, the engine burns upwards of 50 gph, but many captains only use this high speed for short periods of time when needed.
