Christopher Charles McDaniel's DIY Sprung Dance Floor At Home

In efforts to enhance his home dance space, DTH Company Artist Christopher Charles McDaniel watched videos online to see how people made sprung floors. He found one that he thought was manageable and bought the following supplies: •2 8X4 panels of 1/2 inch thick wood (I’m buying 2 more so 4 in total) •5 52inch Pool noodles, cut to 1.5 inches •Elmer's Wood Glue Please enjoy this time lapse video of his process followed by his step by step instructions on how he built his sprung floor: Step One: Measure and cut all noodles. 1.5 inches. Make sure you cut them absolutely even! Step two: Place noodles in rows. DO NOT GLUE THEM YET! The outer edges will need noodles places right at the edge for stability and security. On the edge that will connect with the other board, the noodles should be placed straddling the edge (half way off). So, alternate which board gets half a noodle as you place them. Step 3: Keeping the noodles in place, apply glue, then put them back in their spot with a little pressure. Step 4: Let glue/noodles dry for about 30 minutes. You want them dry enough to flip without them falling off. The weight of the boards will help. Step 5: Flip the boards over (you will need a friend) and add glue to half the noodles that are exposed. Step 6: Gently bring boards together, making sure sides are even. Step 7: I taped the boards to make sure they stayed together. The next step would be to add two more boards going in the opposite direction of the others. Mine are horizontal, so I will place two boards vertically to add security. Step 8: Lay your marley flooring over it. I have 2 Harlequin Dance Mats that I taped together. (TIP: Tape marley together under the marley instead of on top. This will avoid tearing the marley when tape is removed. I also used gaffers tape instead of duct tape.) Though this is a better and more body friendly option than the concrete floor, you still want to approach jumping with ease and caution.
