Bluefin Tuna Fishing (TROPHIES!) - Tomahawk , San Diego CA

EPIC bluefin tuna bite on the BD outdoors sponsored extended 1.5 day charter trip. Launched from Fisherman's Landing on the Tomahawk June 5th and got into the school of bluefin June 6th. Big thank you to Captain Jeff and the crew members of the Tomahawk, Fisherman's landing, and all the passengers on the boat. https://www.fishermanslanding.com/ http://www.tomahawksportfishing.net/ Filmed by : Rodney Marquez Edited by: Rodney Marquez Fishing report from Rodney: "My Coworker and myself hosted our very own BD sponsored trip on the 1.75 @Tomahawk Sportfishing. We left June 5th at 11 am, fished local waters and scratched the yellowtail on drift kelp, no bluefin in the area. Captain Jeff makes the decision to go south, 80+ miles south.Next day, early morning, the trolling rods got a hit and surprisingly it was a yellowfin tuna. We scratched about a handful of yellowfin and yellowtail on that stop. We trolled some more and scratched a couple more YT and YFT on kelp paddies, still no bluefins. The boat continued their search for an hour or so UNTIL we hit our first and only drift. It was the majestic bluefin, it was a whole school of them. These bluefin brought their aunts, uncles, extended families and then some. The school was "big" the captain says. We could see them boiling every where around the boat. Little wind, lake like conditions, great chum line. 60-100 lb BFT boiling on the chum thats just past casting range. Anglers who got bit first had both great bait and soaked for more than 1 min. After our first bluefin was caught on the boat.. IT WAS ON. Consistent bite, at times there were 3-4 anglers hooked up. Little break offs, everyone on the boat was listening and working as a team. 30 lb - 60 lb Floro worked with fly lining live bait 2/0 Circle hook. Rubber band sinker rig technique also worked, ( for those who does not know this technique I made a video of Captain Dave Hansen rigging one :    • How to Catch Deep Tuna Live Bait Rig ...  ), Colt snipers 80 gram, and Flat falls 120+ gram worked (60-80 lb floro). I noticed the flat falls worked well towards dusk, especially the glow in the dark ones. Again we did 1 drift and kept hammering at the bluefin. The Captain and the crew , tried kiting some live bait, however the wind and the current were not ideal. We ended the trip with 26 bluefin (60-80#), 12 yellowtail , and 19 yellowfin tuna. It was a fun time with all the anglers on that trip. BIG thanks to the crew and Captain for putting all of us on that trip. For those of you that I met on the trip. It was a true pleasure fishing with you guys." https://www.bdoutdoors.com/forums/thr... __________________________________________________________________________________________________ For any Media inquiries please email; [email protected] Website: www.BDoutdoors.com
