Gurez Valley Kashmir | Unexplored Kashmir | Exploring Gurez Valley |

In today's video we are taking you along to explore Gurez valley. Gurez, or Gurais (Guráai in the local Shina language), is a valley located in the high Himalayas, about 86 kilometers from Bandipore and 123 kilometers from Srinagar, to the north of the Kashmir valley. At about 2,400 meters above sea level, the valley is surrounded by snow-capped mountains. It has diverse fauna and wildlife including the Himalayan brown bear and the snow leopard. The Kishanganga River flows through the valley. The valley lies near the Line of Control, which separates it from the Astore and Neelam districts of Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Being situated very close to the Burzil Pass, which leads into Astore, the inhabitants are ethnic Dards/Shins. They speak the Shina language and have the same styles of dress and culture as their kinsmen in Pakistani-administered Gilgit-Baltistan. Dawar is the central township in the area. The population of the area is estimated to be about 30,000, and is scattered among fifteen villages. Tourism industry is emerging , hotels like Gurez knights, kaka Palace, woodvibes provide service to tourists. Due to heavy snowfall around 2 meters and closure of Razdan Pass in winter, the valley remains cut off for six months of the year. We stayed at Woodvibes hotel during our visit. The Log Hut Cafe, built by the army for the people of Gurez Valley, is a charming retreat that combines breathtaking views with delicious food and a cozy ambiance. The Log Hut Cafe stands as a testament to the army's commitment to the well-being and happiness of the people in the Gurez Valley. It serves as a gathering place for locals and tourists, fostering a sense of community and providing a much-needed respite from the daily grind. As you step inside the Log Hut Cafe, you are greeted by the rustic charm of its log cabin architecture. The walls are adorned with local artwork and photographs, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and delectable local delicacies fills the air, enticing visitors to indulge in the culinary delights on offer.Gurez's most formidable peak is Habba Khatoon, around which legends abound and at one time, even a film starring Dimple Kapadia was planned. This pyramid shaped peak was named after the Kashmiri poet Habba Khatoon and a natural water spring is there which is becoming a favorite picnic spot for travelers and locals alike. Dawar village, sitting serenely in the heart of the Gurez Valley, is a beacon of genuine Kashmiri culture and tradition. As one of the key attractions in the valley, it offers an authentic glimpse into a time-honored lifestyle that enrages every visitor. Khandiyal Top is a viewpoint on the top of a hillock that presents a 360-degree view of Dawar, the valley, nearby villages, snow-capped peaks, and Kishenganga Dam lake and some small hamlets are worth exploring during your stay at Gurez valley.
