Basics and Probe Selection: Lung Ultrasound, Part 1

This Harvard Medical School Continuing Education video examines these key questions: What are the basic principles guiding lung ultrasonography? How do you choose the correct lung ultrasonography probe? What does normal anatomy look like on lung ultrasound? Associate Residency Program Director of Point-of-Care Ultrasound at Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Dan Restrepo, MD, FHM, provides answers to these questions in his initial presentation on lung ultrasounds. Using images and diagrams, Dr. Restepo guides us through visualizing the basic principles of lung ultrasound, identifies different lung ultrasound probes and how they are used, and explains normal lung anatomy in ultrasound. Probe selection presets and lung ultrasound scanning zones are discussed. This video was peer reviewed by Dr. Jonathan Salik, TMD, MHPEd, Instructor of Medicine, Massachusetts General Hospital; and Dr. Sugantha Sundar, MD, Assistant Professor of Anesthesia, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, to validate the quality and accuracy of the content. 00:00 | Introduction 00:39 | The basic principles of lung ultrasound and probe selection 03:04 | Lung anatomy and scanning zones This video was peer reviewed by Dr.
