Electro-Harmonix Small Stone: legendary analog phaser on synths (sounds and multi-tracked demos)

The Electro-Harmonix Small Stone phase shifter! A legendary analog pedal effect with a long history. ❤ Like the video and subscribe to support the channel 👍 Find me online: https://linktr.ee/mrwoofer Originally made for guitarists to achieve this classic psychedelic sound, it has since then been favoured by keyboardists, music producers and sound designers alike for its unmistakable juicy analog sweeping sound. The origin of the Small Stone dates back to 1974, when Mike Matthews hired former EMS engineer David Cockerell, whose first design for EHX was the Small Stone phaser. It is a 4 stage phase shifter with one additional stage for feedback, which can be activated using the "Color" switch. Throughout its history the Small Stone has had numerous revisions and modifications but its controls have remained unchanged: a speed control, the aforementioned color switch that achieves a deeper and stronger sounding phasing effect and finally the footswitch to toggle the effect on and off. Today I have in the studio the sought-after second version of the small enclosure Small Stone that was produced in 1978. It was famously used by Jean-Michel Jarre on his Oxygene and Equinoxe albums. Sounds great on guitars, synths and electric piano and it’s excellent for breathing analogue life into digital synths and samples. We'll listen to some typical use cases and sound examples. Then we'll take it up a notch with two short jams! First I’ll make an electro piece where the small stone will be used on the Model D to create that typical wobbly bass sound. Next, I’ll try my luck with a classic techno piece with heavily phased strings from the venerable Casio VZ-10M. Synths used in this video: Eminent-v 310 Reaktor, Nektar Aura with Roland TR-606 and TR-909 samples, ARP Odyssey Module with Arturia Keystep, Behringer Model D with Korg SQ-1, Roland JD-990 with Vintage Synth Expansion, Kawai K1m and Korg MS-20 Module limited edition.
