In the Hall of the Mountain King for clarinet quartet

Sheet music available at: https://www.iandeterling.com/in-the-h... Composed by Edvard Grieg. Arranged by Ian Deterling. “In the Hall of the Mountain King” (Dovregubbens hall) was originally composed by Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) as incidental music for Peer Gynt - a five-act play by Henrik Ibsen (1828-1906). “In the Hall of the Mountain King” was later included as the finale in Peer Gynt, Suite No. 1, Op. 46, and has become one of Grieg’s most recognizable works. As the piece unfolds, the music evokes images of trolls, gnomes, and goblins gathered around Dovregubben, the Mountain King. A little about me: Ian Deterling is a composer of aesthetically intriguing works for varied instrumentation. Blending tradition with contemporary practice, his music engages audiences by being authentic, relevant, and memorable. Deterling’s works have been performed nationally and internationally, most notably by members of prestigious organizations such as the London Symphony Orchestra, the São Paulo State Symphony, the National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, and the San Antonio Symphony. His works and arrangements for educational ensembles are frequently performed at high schools and colleges as well as by amateur community bands, orchestras, and ensembles all around the world. Deterling earned his Bachelor of Science in Music at the University of Wisconsin-Superior in Superior, Wisconsin and his Master of Music in Composition from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. He currently resides in Superior, Wisconsin where he loves to try out new vegan recipes, goes for jogs in the woods, and enjoys classic horror films with his family and friends.
