Tennis Forehand Stances - Open vs Closed vs Neutral

Tennis Forehand Stances - Open vs Closed vs Neutral Which tennis forehand stance is best? When should you use each forehand stance in tennis? Transform your forehand with our free forehand guide here - https://www.top-tennis-training.com/f... In this lesson, Coach Simon Konov of Top Tennis Training will explain the different tennis forehand stances and when to use each one. This includes the open stance tennis forehand stance, the neutral stance and the closed stance. What is the stance? Prior to hitting the forehand in tennis, you'll want to set up in a balanced way. Having a wide, athletic base to push off from will help you generate more power, topspin and control. The way you position your feet will determine your stance. Open Stance Forehand - The open stance forehand is where you have both feet almost aligned, in line with the baseline. The inside foot can be slightly ahead of the outside foot, but not by much. This stance will allow you to drive upwards, into the ball. Perfect for hitting on the move, dealing with higher balls or on shorter balls where you want to drive into the contact zone. Imagine doing a lunge onto your right leg (if right-handed) and then jumping out of that position whilst rotating the hips and trunk. Neutral Stance Forehand - This stance is where you have the front foot in front of the body, aligned with the back foot. This stance is perfect for transferring your body weight into the shot. It's used mainly on slightly shorter or softer balls where you have time to really set up and step into the ball. Closed Stance Forehand - This stance is where you have the front foot across the body line which blocks the rotation of the body. This stance is best avoided, but on the full run, you may have to use it occasionally.
