1,426 WHP | BoostedBoiz | Honda K-Series

The BoostedBoiz became the talk of the sport compact world in 2021 when they laid down a scorching 7-second run in their Honda K-series powered Toyota MR2. You can read all about their drag racing exploits and the 1,106 WHP setup here. The team, however, wasn’t satisfied with dipping into the 7s and they wanted more—a whole lot more. A larger Precision turbo was added along with other upgrades, and they booked a return trip to FuelTech USA’s facility, located in Ball Ground, Georgia to sort out their Power FT engine management system. Once on the property the BoostedBoiz took advantage of the Advanced Dyno Training, which includes eight hours of one-on-one training using your vehicle on the Mainline hub dyno. FuelTech handles the driving chores, enabling you to focus your time with the FuelTech customer service staff. Included in the session is a complete data log analysis of the runs and advanced help in creating the ECU maps or troubleshooting issues. Adding to the fun, FuelTech throws in a flash drive with professionally curated photography and videos of your experience as well as feeding the group lunch. The dyno result was a staggering 1,426 WHP from a Honda K-series engine, utilizing an OEM block and running on E85. We will do the easy math for those who aren’t good with numbers—that is a 326 WHP gain over the previous iteration of the famed K24 powerplant. How deep into the 7s will they run? To find out, follow BoostedBoiz on YouTube to keep up with their exploits. The MR2 benefits from a FT550 ECU to keep the tire-limited MR2 under control as they travel a fine line between tire spin or wheelie with the short-wheelbase and mid-mount engine. The FT600, FT550, FT550LITE, and FT450 offer a complete line-up of standard features including sequential injection and ignition, O2 Closed Loop, data logger, delay box, Boost Controller, Nitrous Controller, traction control, and so much more. Keeping a stock-block from splitting requires precision tuning and the FT550 offers many options for data collection to help keep making informed tune changes. All PowerFT line of engine management systems come standard with accelerometer, gyroscope, and the ability to connect any sensor via CAN connection. The information is displayed with the engine and power management data, allowing the tuner to use only the FTManager software when analyzing the information. It streamlines the process for easy and quick changes for the next run. One highlight from the MR2 setup is the FuelTech WB-O2 Nanos, which are connected to the FT550 via CAN connection, saving valuable space on the analog input channel line-up. From 5,000 WHP twin turbo, methanol-burning HEMI engines to a 7-second, 1,426 WHP four-cylinder Honda K-series on E85 ethanol, there is a reason you’re seeing #FuelTechEverywhere Like the video?
