Making a Historical Elsa cosplay from Frozen 2 | Victorian teagown part 1

Hello everyone and welcome to a new video! This project was suggested by a few Costubers and inspired by some designs (  / b-1swj3gj3m  ) by gebruerstine on Instagram. I picked Elsa's nightgown from the Into the Unknown sequence. There wasn't a design already made for this, so I made my own based on a combination of 1890s teagowns and the nightgown itself. I found it challenging to negotiate the modern/cosplay aspect while trying to keep the 1890s look. Although my materials are not historically accurate, I used a lot of historical techniques to keep the historical silhouette (to be clear, this isn't historically accurate at all! but I do think it works well with what we have seen of extant 1890s teagowns). I am pretty chuffed with the result! The tea gown is made of an overgown and under dress (although historically they were most usually combined into one garment). The making of the underdress is recorded in this video and there will be one more video about the overgown and the costume reveal. I purchased some crepe de chine (mostly synthetic) and drafted a pattern from an existing 1890s shirtwaist pattern, which was slashed and spread until the neckline was even, and then squared out the desired height measurement. I then did traditional smocking across the front panel, and machine smocking across the back panels. I really wanted to incorporate the decorations from Elsa's nightgown, so I made a collar feature with glitter and crystals! I'm really excited to see it all together :) My Pinterest board: https://www.pinterest.co.uk/catscostu...
