Review of NAVISKAUTO HD Portable DVD Player with 12.5" IPS screen I ordered this DVD player mostly for use when traveling due to its light weight and compact size, but also for use at home. It's a good product, well designed, with many features and actually very much better than my home model. The DVD player is well made with a good build quality and I was taken aback by how lightweight it is at 1.14kg which, combined with its compact 31x22x3.5cm (max) size, makes it highly portable for use at home or away. Thanks to its internal rechargeable battery, it can also be used outdoors or in areas where there is no power supply making it ideal for off-grid use such as tent-camping or, if used in a campervan or boat, it can run from the 12V leisure battery. Both 230V AC mains and a 12V power lead are included. It has many welcome features - and is actually more functional than my home DVD player. It has all the usual controls - play, pause, skip, repeat, subtitles on/off, picture zoom in addition to viewing modes to select the optimal picture quality mode eg 'movie mode', 'night mode'... The stereo audio has a good volume level for use in a small room (60dB according to the spec) or it can be used with headphones via the 3.5mm jack socket. Picture quality is very good. The 12.5" Full HD IPS screen offers 1920x1080 resolution giving bright, clear images which can be seen clearly even when the screen is viewed at an angle. Also, the screen can also swivel through 90° to provide the best viewing angle which is a very useful feature when used in bright sun. Alternatively, if used at home then the DVD player can be linked to a HD TV via the A/V lead supplied. The DVD player is a fully-featured media player: it will read not only CDs and DVDs but also files from USB sticks and SD memory cards (up to 128GB) including photo, video, and audio files. Photos can be viewed as a slideshow at various speeds with/without zoom (up to 4X) and transitions; audio can be played with effects such as 'room' or 'outdoor' to suit the setting while movies (ie video files) can display subtitles, play at different aspect ratios, or zoom up to 4X. DVD-movie playback supports angles, zooming, chapters and slow motion. The screen also has an icon for E-books but I couldn't find any formats it would read and I had an 'Dose (sic) not support format' error message for PDF and epub files. I hadn't expected it to perform as an e-book reader however. In addition to the mis-spelling of 'dose' for does, panel was also mis-spelled at 'pannel' on the on-screen display but in normal use the OSD is only present for a few seconds so not a major issue. The DVD player also has a memory so will resume a DVD movie at the point it it was paused or stopped on the last use. It is easy to use and navigate between menus and options using either the controls on the DVD player or the highly responsive remote control unit powered by 2 x AAA batteries (supplied). If using the latter, ensure you point it towards the lower right side of base of the player rather than towards the screen as I did at first! For a later version, it would be good to see touch-screen controls. A design feature I especially like is the way the DVD bay opens fully from the top. Too many DVD players have a sliding tray and these have a tendency to become jammed, often requiring the machine to be taken apart to release the jammed disc - which has been the case for one of my home DVD players which jammed at monthly intervals. With a fully-opening bay, this cannot happen on this player and, combined with the other excellent features, I would highly recommend it as a portable DVD player for use anywhere.
