Bomberman Party Edition (PS1) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

A playthrough of Vatical Entertainment's 2000 action-puzzle game for the Sony PlayStation, Bomberman Party Edition. Played through "normal mode" with "modern" graphics. Bomberman Party Edition marks Hudson's PlayStation effort to revisit and revamp the original 1983 Bomberman game that later appeared on the NES and various computer platforms. It's pretty much the same exact game but with a new option to fancy-up the graphics with the so-called "Modern" version, and a battle mode has been added. It features fifty stages, each with a hidden power-up to collect and a bevy of monsters to incinerate before finding the hidden exit door. All of the original stages are represented, as are the mini bonus games. Also like in the original, each room hosts a secret bonus point item that only appears once you've met a secret set of conditions: I don't get all of them in this video, but I do show quite a few, and end up with a pretty monster score by the end because of it. Granted, there are FAR, FAR more to be found, but I didn't think anyone would want to watch a 4 hour video just to see me get them all, so I didn't. The graphics aren't quite as appealing in their newest iterations here, but they do the game just fine, and of course, you always have the retro graphics mode if you prefer the pixel-chunky look. The game plays as well as it ever has, but I've got to wonder. Even if they had to cut the graphics back a fair amount, why didn't the PlayStation get a port of Saturn Bomberman? Or, barring that, its own original Bomberman of comparable quality? Or hell, even a greatest hits mashup of the Super Bomberman games with a face-lift would have been great! Party Edition seems like a bit of a cop-out, after bringing us one of the best Bomberman games of all time, to then release an updated version of a nearly 20 year old game. Still yet, I can't bring myself to hate on it. I had a lot of fun with it, and it's still Bomberman. Everything it does, it does fine. There are just other games that do significantly more with the formula out there. It's one of the easiest to find and play today, though! If you have a PS3, just check out the PS1 section of the PSN Store. It's that easy. ____ No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
