Day 11: Twin Lakes - Bubbs Creek (mile 163.7 - mile 184.4) Big day today. I went for a swim in Rae Lakes, known as one of the most beautiful lakes on the trail. Shortly after was Glen Pass (11,957’), which I found to be the most challenging ascent yet. On most passes you can see where the top is, but I couldn’t see it on Glen, and kept thinking I was at the top only to realize I had a LONG way to go. Eventually… I made it, and it had some of my favorite views yet. After each pass the landscape changes, but the south side of the Glen was like another world. It was the most desert like area yet, but also has some of the highest peaks yet. This is also the second section of the trail where there is no water for about 5 miles. The other section was after Red’s Meadow. Otherwise, there is water everywhere on this trail. I got started on Forester Pass hiking about 3 of the 7 miles up before setting up camp. I am in good shape to go over in the morning - the highest pass on the JMT & PCT! Also, the last pass on the JMT before Mt. Whitney!
