Casio G-Shock GW-M5610 In-depth Review

Welcome to the 4th official episode of The Good Timekeeping Show. The subject today is Casio's G-Shock GW-M5610 watch. This one captures the overall style of Casio's original DW-5000C from the early 1980s, including the red "pin stripe" on the face of the watch. But the inside of the watch is all new, featuring Tough Solar to recharge the internal battery and Multiband 6 to synchronize the time using Atomic Time broadcasts from 6 transmitters around the world. There are literally dozens of styles of the watches which use Casio's Module number 3159. In this video, I've mainly featured watches which vary only in color. Casio has also offered this module in watches with different case sizes and styles. The GW-M5610 with the red pin stripe is the easiest and least-costly version available in the USA. You can easily find it for less than $100. If you want to purchase the other styles you will likely pay more, up to several hundred dollars! Why? Because you'll probably have to find a retailer from Japan. And I've found many of them through places like eBay and Amazon, so they're not difficult to find. Just be prepared for the higher price. (Please note that there may be some rare, limited edition models out there or maybe even variations which are discontinued. I'll guess you can still find them for purchase, maybe in used condition, but the prices might be very high.) Beyond the solar and atomic features on these watches, the other functions are very common for Casio's G-shock lineup. You'll find a stopwatch, countdown timer, 5 alarms (including 1 snooze alarm), an hourly chime and a "World Time" mode to show the time in any time zone you choose besides the "home" time zone you've chosen. And, of course, the G-Shock brand means the watch can really take a punch (with 200 meter water resistance too!). Casio also produces the DW-5600 in a variety of colors. It looks very similar to the watches in this video. It also has that tough, G-shock protection and sells for a much lower price. However, it lacks the Tough Solar and Multiband 6 features. In a follow-up video I show more of these radio controlled G-Shock squares in person...    • Casio G-Shock Square Variety with GW-...
