Today I am visiting one of my students at Camarillo Airport. The flight from my home base of Whiteman Airport to Camarillo is fairly short, it barely qualifies as a cross country by rotorcraft standards. About 15 miles from my destination I checked the ATIS information, then listened to the tower communications for few minutes. The airport was busy, and at one point the tower directed a Cessna to be number eight for landing on Rwy. 26. Another aircraft was asked to stay out of the Delta airspace for few more minutes while the controller was handling the current arrivals. At 10 miles out, I found a gap in the radio chatter to make my call. The tower asked me about my destination once on the ground, to which I replied I was going to the East End Hangars. Next, I was asked if I can accept Taxiway Golf landing in front of the restaurant. This is a well-established procedure for gyros at this airport and I have done it few times. I readily accepted this approach, and the controller directed me to proceed at or below 500 feet to my landing spot. I did not have to drop down below 500 feet immediately, so I took my time descending. I just have to make sure I am low enough when crossing paths with the aircraft approaching Rwy. 26… At this point I am just about ready to cross under the approach path for Rwy. 26, I also tried to be a good neighbor and avoid overflying residential areas. Turning to the right would put me on the right path to reach my landing spot. Flying at this altitude does not give me a good vantage point, but I remember from my last visit to look for the water tower located in the vicinity of where I am going. As I get closer and closer, I finally receive by official landing clearance, now all I have to do is land gracefully so I don’t get embarrassed in front of all the critical eyes of the onlookers peeking out from their hangars, not to mention the people at the restaurant… Please give us thiumbs up and subscribe to the channel.
