Here is how you can make a really reliable tripod mount for your smartphone. I've used it for all the videos I made so far, it doesn't take long to make and if you use scrap wood and/or recycled material, it costs nothing whatsoever. Here are all the dimensions: back plate: 85x60mm 8mm thick (length depends on the width of the phone) lower jaw: 15x60mm 12.5mm thickness (mind the ridge of 0.5mm) base (the part without name): 10x60x20.5mm upper jaw: 20x60x20.5mm grooves for the phone: 5mm deep 12mm wide You can easily adapt this phone holder to fit a commercial tripod by replacing the 6mm bolt sticking out of the base with a 1/4" threaded insert.
