Guitarchaeology: 1972 Harmony Stella H-6128

Harmony was founded in 1892 by a German immigrant named Wilhelm Schultz, from Hamburg. Harmony guitars were all made in Chicago up until the company ceased in 1976. They were THE number one budget student guitar manufacturer of the '60s. Stella was a brand that was originally started by ANOTHER German immigrant, Oscar Schmidt. These guitars were built in New Jersey. Schmidt died in 1929, and eventually the company dissolved. Harmony bought the rights to the name Stella (as well as Sovereign) in 1939. In this video I'll share personal photos of my first guitar, a Harmony Stella that belonged to my mother's family. I have no idea what model it was...it was left behind in Nevada after a summer road trip some 25 years ago. A few years ago, I went on a hunt for a replacement, and I found this Stella H-6128...you can watch the first video I made about it here    • UsedGuitars: 1972 Harmony Stella H-6128   But now we'll take a closer look at it. We'll look at Harmony Stella headstock shapes & logo styles, differences in the painted fretboard markers. We'll look at a Harmony catalog from 1972, and talk about how you can determine when your Harmony guitar was made. We'll jam around a bit so you can hear the woody, ladder-braced sound, and finally we'll look at some personal home video footage from the late '90s.
