Climbing Mt. Whitney (14,505 ft) via the East Buttress (5.7) car to car IN A DAY!

We climbed Mt. Whitney on July 9th, 2022 car to car in about 18 hours in honor of our late friend Jenny's birthday weekend. Her and John had done this climb in this style, except they descended the much longer way down the 99 switchbacks instead of the Mountaineers route. This day ran just about as smooth as you can get in the alpine. The biggest crux of the trip was the stubborn black bear in the parking lot trying to get our food and breaking into cars. Such a fun route! Highly recommend this route for those getting into the alpine, but done over 2-3 days instead of in a day. The gear is great, except for the run-out 5.7 face climbing on pitch 3, but the climbing is easy and over quickly. The Moutaineer's route is busy and very loose, so be very careful on the descent. We had a group of hikers kick down a microwave sized rock down on us, but we were luckily able to get off to the side in time. GO DO IT!
