Samudra Manthan - The Grandest Event

Samudra Manthan - The Grandest Event The legend of the Samudra Manthan, which took place in the Satyuga, discusses the churning of a divine ocean known as Ksheer Sagar to obtain Amrit or the Immortality Drink and a fierce fight that followed between the Devas and the Asuras over the Amrit. As per the scriptures, the Devas and the Asuras are the sons of the same father but have different mothers, Aditi and Diti respectively which is why they differ in their nature even though both are powerful. This event is discussed in the three scriptures- the Vishnu Purana, the Bhagavad Purana, and the Mahabharata. Once, Indra the king of Swarga was on a walk with his elephant called Airavata. There he met sage Durvasa who presented him with a mystic garland which was presented to him by an Apsara. Indra put that garland around Airavata's trunk as a testament to his humility. The flowers had a strong scent that attracted some bees. Annoyed by the bees, the elephant threw the garland on the ground and ended up trampling the same. Seeing the condition of his offering, Durvasa, known for his bad temper, became enraged as the garland was a dwelling of Sri (fortune and riches) and was to be treated as a prasada or a religious offering. He cursed Indra, along with all the other Devas to be bereft of all their powers, strength, and glory. As a result of this curse, Goddess Lakshmi vanished into the oceans. Powerless, the Devas stood no chance against the Asuras who would soon defeat them and take over Swarga. In the battles following the incident, the devas were defeated and the asuras, led by Bali, gained control over the three worlds. After losing all their power and wealth Indra and other Gods were roaming through the world as beggars. When their situation became unbearable, they decided to approach Brahma, the Creator for advice. When the Gods reached Brahmlok, the abode of Brahma, they found him sitting on a Lotus, engrossed in his meditation. All the Gods folded their hands and prostrated in front of him. Brahma opened his eyes and blessed the Gods. Indra told him about their misery and requested Brahma to help them. Brahma asked the Gods to approach Vishnu for the solution to their problem. All the Gods led by Indra went to Vishnu for help. After hearing about the misery of the Gods, Vishnu promised to help them. He told the Gods that only the Elixir or Amrit churned from the Ksheersagar (Samudra Manthan), the ocean of milk can restore their sheen and power. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **Please Like, Share and Subscribe our videos.** Press the bell button to stay notified about our new videos! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Music Credits: Wheel Of Karma by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/...
