The Conjuring 2 tells the infamous and alleged story of the Enfield Poltergeist, a haunting that supposedly rocked the Hodgson Family in England in the late 1970s. The movie is brimming with things you (might have) missed. There are references to real life happenings and investigations, like the very well known Amityville Horror case involving the Lutz family and the DeFeo family, as well as recreations of moments documented by the media in the Enfield poltergeist case that you may not have realized were allusions to real life. As always when covering movies directed by James Wan, I'll point out instances of his auteur, or director's trademark, connecting this movie to his others such as Saw, Dead Silence and Insidious. Of course, the most heavily connected James Wan film is the first movie, The Conjuring, but the sequel would not just call back to it's predecessor, it would also set things up for future Conjurverse installments like Annabelle Creation and, of course, The Nun. As usual, I'll discuss my theories, foreshadowing that I noticed, creatures hidden in the backgrounds of scenes, small details, subliminal messages and so much more!
