Once allowances for sea crossings have been made, the drivers' times are then recorded. The British contingent comprises around 70 drivers, most of whom set off from Glasgow, UK. Among them are Reggie Tongue in a Jaguar and Mike Couper in a Bentley. Thanks to near perfect driving conditions, all the British drivers make the ferry crossing at Folkestone with time in hand. Lisbon, Portugal, is a popular departure point for the Monte Carlo Rally. Tommy Wisdom sets off in a Sunbeam-Talbot, and Jean Trevoux, three times winner of the rally, pulls away in a Delahaye. Most of the 40 drivers who set off from Stockholm, Sweden, drive American cars, but Greta Molander has opted for a Swedish SAAB. There are eight competitors from Norway, Sweden and Denmark, embarking on a snowy route from Oslo, Norway to Denmark. A crowd of enthusiastic supporters cheer along the 20 drivers who set off from the Sicilian capital Palermo, Italy, including Prince Lenza di Trabia in his Alfa-Romeo. The British drivers reach Boulogne, France, around midday on the second day and then head east towards Lille, France. Then it is on through the night to Amsterdam, Holland, before heading back to Paris, France, via Brussels, Belgium. Dawn on day three sees the drivers struggle with snowy conditions. Later, the first arrivals in Monte Carlo are greeted by torrential rain. As the drivers approach the finish line, they must pass an acceleration and braking test. With the first stage complete, the drivers can rest. In the morning the cars will be inspected and points deducted for mechanical failure. For the top 50 drivers, the final part of the rally involves a demanding six lap race around Monte Carlo. Louis Rosier crosses the line to secure first place in his class. Louis Chiron gives an immaculate display, setting a lap record. British driver Colin Vard is third in the general classification, and Mike Couper's Bentley is first in its class. Jean Trevoux secures the overall win for an impressive fourth time.
