Battle of Okehazama (1560)

Battle of Okehazama, fought on May 20th 1560. in Owari Province east of Nagoya, was a decisive victory of Oda Nobunaga, at the time lord of Owari, against the army of Imagawa Yoshimoto, ruler of Mikawa, Totomi and Suruga provinces, at the time the foremost military power of Eastern Japan. Nobunaga's army, only 2.000 strong, attacked some 25 thousand Imagawa troops, who were separated into several detachments and caught unprepared, during afternoon meal. This was the first major victory for Oda Nobunaga, who would continue his struggle for unification of Japan (1560-1582) after more than a century of chaos during Sengoku period.
