How to Pick an Electric Motor Enclosure

Today we'll be talking motor enclosure basics. Finding the right enclosure is important to ensure that the motor will be protected from contaminants to extend the life of the motor. We will discuss pros and cons of ODP, TEFC, TENV, and XP enclosures. Please check out the links below and subscribe to help us build a better content! ODPs (Open-Drip Proof): inexpensive, and great for clean, dry, indoor applications. TEFC (Totally-Enclosed Fan Cooled): standard for most industrial applications and great for dirty, wet or dusty areas. TENV (Totally-Enclosed Non-Ventilated): No fan cooling system or vents, just passively cooled. Not completely air tight or waterproof so not for wet environment. EP (Explosion Proof): Contains any explosions in the motor so they won't ignite anything outside the motor. Can come in TEFC or TENV versions.
