I've done it, I played Meshuggah on a six string. It can be done. BUT I had to use 10-52 strings in order to get a half-decent tone out of it. I used Ernie Ball 2215's. I panned my recording 40% left. Sorry for the artifacts, my graphics card died a long time ago, it just hasn't been burried yet. Demiurge is the first song from Meshuggah I learned, but it is still pretty challenging... especially the last part. I'm not sure whether i got the solo right or not, but at least it sounds good to me :) Gear: -Pickboy Carbon Nylon .88 Plecs -Ernie Ball 2215 -Half-Homemade strat-type guitar, i built the body myself and stole the neck from a cheap china-superstrat. -EMG-81 + cheapo Bridge-Singlecoil in Parallel -Hughes & Kettner Tour Reverb (without a spring reverb, long story) -Lead Channel Gain: full Voicing: 0 Bass: -5 Mid: -2.5 Treble: +5 I have plugged a patch cable from the FX send to the FX return (FX Level: half), which makes for a bit more punch in the sound. -Homemade 4x12 out of 10mm Ply with 40mmx40mm supports on the front and corners. Total inner volume: about 0.25m³ -Loaded with Jensen JCH-1270 Chicagos @ 4 Ohms (full parallel). -Zoom H4 Handy recorder from 2005, that thing is amazing! - Sony Vegas pro 13.0 - Some reverb on the lead stuff -Camera: some old cheapo digicam with 848x480 pixels reso.
