BP-5 and other emergency food

This video describes food preps in Shelter 142. We consider and implement three layers, based on usage, how long the food can be stored and how compact the products are; that is how much space the calories and nutrients take up. We are limited with regard to storage space. First layer: Buy and rotate; these are food backups as part of what we use in the normal course of our life. These items are used and replaced on a regular basis. These products typically take up a lot of space, as density of nutrients and calories is not high. In this layer we store canned goods like soups, apple sauce, pasta and sauce, rice, coffee. But not only food, also sanitary products are held in reserve; all things that we consume regularly. Very important is water, of course! But not only water! Also Milk, Juice and maybe some morale lifters, like beer…. Buy and rotate! Second layer are food products for long term storage: Buy and forget! For example, dried down and canned noodles with sauce. Not very compact, still taking up a lot of space; but importantly, best used before life is long. Third Layer comprises food of the “Buy, forget, and outstandingly compact” category. Shelter 142 stores BP-5. BP-5 is from the company GCRieber Compact in Norway. http://www.gcrieber-compact.com/ BP-5 and alike products are used by aid organisations to provide food for example in the first phase of disaster relief operations. One box contains enough calories and nutrients for an adult for one day. Shelf life is very high. It has to be eaten together with enough drinking water, about 200 ml per bar.
