Famed professor F.F. Bruce taught, "Nothing in Jesus' teaching about the kingdom of God is more determinant than His teaching about the God to whom the kingdom belongs. So far as we can gather from the evidence, Jesus was unique in applying to God the designation 'abba--not the liturgical (our Father) by which God was addressed in certain synagogue prayers...but the domestic word by which a father was called within the affectionate intimacy of the family circle. He addressed God as 'abba expressing His own sense of loving nearness to God and His implicit trust in Him; but more than that, He taught His disciples similarly to call God 'abba and to look to Him with the same trustful expectation as children show when they look to their fathers to provide them with food and clothes. This attitude is specially inculcated in the Lord's Prayer, where almost in the same breath of praying for the consummation of God's eternal purpose in the world, they ask Him for their daily bread, forgiveness of sin, and deliverance in temptation's hour" (New Testament History). And as Jesus taught His disciples about the Fatherhood of God, so too does Paul, as he continues instructing on the gift of the Holy Spirit, His leading, and adoption.
