MS Frisia IX (AG Reederei Norden-Frisia) - Lutz dumbwaiter

The Juist ferry Frisia IX (Frisia 9, operated by AG Reederei Norden-Frisia) has been equipped with a dumbwaiter back in 2002. The ship itself is from 1980. It runs on the ferry route from Norden - Norddeich to Juist. Expand to read more. Juist is the fourth of the East Frisian islands I visited. The buildings on this island compare abit to Langeoog, although they are bigger and there are also more modern buildings around. The timetable of the ferry depends on high tide. Means that the ship can not operate during low tide. The trip takes about 90 minutes and is therefore quite long compared to the other East Frisian island ferries. There is a very limited tolerance, so there are not more than two departures each day, often there is just one. During winter, there is always just one departure with no return journey back to the mainland at the same day. Beside the ferry, there is also a small landing strip on the island, served by several flights with small aircraft. These operate much more often than the ferry. Beside Frisia IX, the ships Frisia II and VI also operate on this line. Ship information: IMO: 7924310 MMSI: 211272310 Type: Passenger ship Built in: 1980 Flag: Germany Home port: Norderney Callsign: DCEX Gross tonnage: 571 The ferry terminal of the Juist ferry in Norddeich doesn't have got any elevators (as its just single floor). The Juist terminal also doesn't have any. Actually there is an elevator in Norddeich port, but it is situated in the terminal of the Norderney ferry. Turns out it is derelict, some members of staff told me when I returned to this place for a trip to Norderney. You can reach the Juist ferry easily as there is a railway station (Norddeich Mole) right next to it, served by regional and also InterCity trains. Furthermore, there are coach services, such as the "Ostfriesland-Express" (only at some days and needs to be booked before) and the MeinFernbus/Flixbus lines 144 and N227 (one trip each day, line and direction, N227 only operates when being booked before!). The coast bus line K3 connects to Esens railway station.
