Nikka Whisky "Yoichi Distillery" was established in 1934 in Yoichi, which has a cool and humid climate similar to Scotland, after Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka Whiskey, learned the art of making authentic whiskey in Scotland in 1918. Even today, rich, powerful malt whisky is produced using the traditional coal-fired distillation method. In February 2022, several facilities, including the kiln (first drying tower), were designated as important cultural properties of Japan as an irreplaceable historical asset for the development of Japan's whiskey industry.
