Is It Worth UPGRADING YOUR STEREO IN AN OLD CAR? In this video I upgrade the stereo system in my wife's 2005 GMC Envoy. This was a fairly basic install but the wiring is a bit difficult for the average Joe due to the 'interface' that is part of the wiring harness. These GM vehicles with OnStar require a special harness to be able to retain OnStar and vehicle chimes since they are all contained within the factory head unit. The interface I used was by Metra called the GMOS-01. This thing is basically a box that's wired in-between the new head unit and the factory wiring harness. This Envoy does NOT have a factory amplifier but if it did, in the case of a Bose sound system, you'd need a different 'interface.' The single din dash kit I used was Scosche GM1583B. After using some washers as spacers to bring the entire unit forward about .5" the fit and finish was great!
